Writers Who Read

This is my core study group, my homies, my tribe. I founded Writers Who Read back in 2018 and since then we’ve studied, on average, 10 novels per year. We meet somewhere around Boulder, Colorado, almost every month, and we’re sponsored by the Boulder Writers Alliance. At each meeting we dissect a recent novel (published within the past 18 months) with the goal of uncovering how the author has utilized their skills for effect. By learning as much as we can from critically-acclaimed or best-selling novels, we can then apply that knowledge to our own writing.

We ask that all attendees read the novel in advance of the meeting, and come bearing their discoveries of literary craft by using the tools of Literary Forensics. Links to all source materials comprising Literary Forensics can be found on the Literary Forensics Resources page.

To address the obvious questions: What are we reading and when’s the next meeting?

Lighthouse Writers Workshop

Writers Who Read meet for two hours to study a single novel, but starting in September, 2022, I’m teaching a 4-week deep-dive into a single novel at the Lighthouse Writers Workshop in Denver, CO.

Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers Conference

In September, 2022, I presented Literary Forensics for the first time to a wider audience of writers who read.
